カレンデュラにまつわる話
カレンデュラはマリーゴールドですが、ほかの品種と混合しないようにメディカルハーブに用いるマリーゴールドの学名にちなんでカレンデュラと呼びます。ヨーロッパでは昔から「エディブル・フラワー(食用の花)」として利用されてきました。日本には17世紀中ごろに渡来したとされ、食用ではなく主に仏壇や墓に供える供花、仏花としての利用が主流である。だが、オレンジ色の花びらを米料理や魚料理の飾りにしたり、チーズ、菓子、ジャムなどの着色料として利用されてきました。
カレンデュラの作用は損傷を受けた皮膚や粘膜を修復、保護することで、古くから胃潰瘍や黄胆、それにちなんだ喉の炎症や外傷、火傷に用いられてきました。このメカニズムは完全には解明されていませんがカレンデュラの成分の多糖類が免疫系を調整し、カロテンやフラボノイドという成分が損傷を受けた皮膚や粘膜、毛細血管の修復を促し、殺菌作用のあるタンニンが原因ではないかと思われます。その他には抗菌作用やヘルペスなどに対する抗ウイルス作用、トリコモナスなどへの抗寄生虫作用が確認されています。中世ヨーロッパではカレンデュラを眺めているだけで視力が強化されると考えられていたそうです。

カレンデュラの使用方法
【ハーブティーとして】
ハーブティーの色は綺麗な黄金色で花の香より草原のような香りがします。効能として新陳代謝を促し、身体の内側から肌をきれいにするほか、貧血、生理痛、生理不順、更年期障害など女性特有の症状を軽減する効果があります。
またニキビや肌荒れが気になる場合はハーブティーをそのまま化粧水として使用することで肌の損傷を修復、消炎が期待できます。ハーブティーをガーゼやコットンに染み込ませて切り傷など炎症部分に湿布すると応急処置になるといわれています。
作り方
１、乾燥させたカレンデュラを小さじ１杯をポットにいれて、熱湯を注ぐ。
２、蓋をして5分から10分蒸らす。
３、カップに注ぐ。
※濃いめに抽出したものはうがい薬として利用できます。

【カレンデュラオイルとして】
１、乾燥したカレンデュラの花弁(5g)と植物油(100ml)をガラス容器に入れ、蓋をし二週間漬け込んで花をこす。
２、さらに花(10g)を加えてさらに二週間漬け込み、再度こすと完成。
このオイルはマッサージオイルやハンドクリーム、ミツロウで作れば軟膏になるので唇のケアに使用することができます。
【チンキ剤として】
カレンデュラの花弁をアルコールで浸出したカレンデュラのチンキ剤は原液または希釈して、外用や内用ともに用いることができます。

カロチノイド色素を豊富に含み、抗菌作用をもつため皮膚粘膜や毛細血管の修復と保護、創傷の治癒を目的に内用と外用で用いられます。

Anecdote regarding Calendula
Although calendula is marigold, it is called calendula after the scientific name of marigold used for medical herbs so that it is not mixed up with other varieties of asteraceae. In Europe, it has been used as an "edible flower" since ancient times. It is said that it came to Japan in the middle of the 17th century, and it is mainly used as a flower offering to Buddhist altars and tombs, not as food. However, orange petals have been used as decorations for rice dishes and fish dishes, and are also used as coloring agents for cheese, sweets, and jams.
The effect of calendula is to repair and protect damaged skin and mucous membranes, and has been used for a long time for gastric ulcer and yellow gall, as well as throat inflammation, trauma and burns. Although this mechanism has not been completely clarified, the polysaccharide of calendula regulates the immune system, and the component called carotene and flavonoid promotes repair of damaged skin, mucous membranes and capillaries, and has a bactericidal action. How to use Calendula
【As a herbal tea】
The color of herbal tea is a beautiful golden color, and it smells more like a meadow than the incense of flowers. It has the effect of promoting metabolism, cleaning the skin from the inside of the body, and reducing the symptoms peculiar to women such as anemia, menstrual cramps, menstrual disorders, and menopause.
If you are worried about acne or rough skin, you can use herbal tea as a lotion to repair skin damage and extinguish inflammation. It is said that first-aid treatment will be performed by soaking herb tea in gauze or cotton and applying a poultice to the inflamed area such as a cut.
How to make
１、Add 1 teaspoon of dried calendula to the pot and pour boiling water.
２、Cover and steam for 5 to 10 minutes.
３、Pour into a cup.
※Thick extract can be used as a mouthwash.

【As a Calendula oil】
１、Put dried calendula petals (5g) and vegetable oil (100ml) in a glass container. Cover and soak for 2 weeks to purify the flowers.
２、Add more flowers (10 g), let it soak for another two weeks, and purify it again to complete.
This oil becomes an ointment when made with massage oil, hand cream, and beeswax, so it can be used for lip care.
【As a tincture】
Calendula tincture, which is the alcoholic exudation of calendula petals, can be used undiluted or diluted for both external and internal use.
